    Resting on the slopes of a small vale outside of Combe Martin, Valentine’s Orchard is named for the small orchard that it borders on the site of Truckham Farm. Starting with its sister cabin 100 metres away, Skylark, owner Nicola has focused on creating spaces with creativity and eco-consciousness as their focus. No matter where you are in Valentine’s Orchard, you’ll see that focus, when you’re admiring the wooden beams above the wood burner whilst you snuggle up, or when you look out over the gentle slopes from your cosy linens in bed. On the very western half of Exmoor National Park, you’re just three miles from Combe Martin Beach and the South West Coastal path, and in 20 minutes or so, you could be at another award-winning beach – Woolacombe, or just heading further into Exmoor. With huge windows looking out on your own tiny valley in front of the large desk, this could be an incredible place to work remotely for a while, though you’d inevitably want more free time. With wifi onsite, plenty of space to breeze about, and cooking facilities that’d make a house jealous – Valentine’s Orchard shows off what glamping is supposed to be like.

    The terms "boathouse conversion" and "industrial design" may not seem like the best coupling upon first listen, but both concepts have been seamlessly married in The Old Devon Boathouse. The interior is stylish and contemporary, while the setting is quaint and maritime. Sitting right on the River Exe in the town of Topsham, you will be ideally situated to explore the region, and the county's capital Exeter is just a short drive away. Sleeping up to three guests, The Boathouse is a wonderful retreat for couples or small families with an appreciation for modern décor and charming vistas. Exposed white brick walls, luxury modern furnishings, and top-quality basalt floor tiles run through the property, lending it an industrial, yet sleek, air. Upon entering, you will be greeted by the open planned living area (and a classic Porsche in the adjoined garage). The sitting room contains a comfy couch, flat screen TV, and a cosy wood burning stove. An ultra-contemporary kitchen sits adjacent and comes well equipped. The master bedroom boasts a comfortable double bed and a beautiful ensuite. The bathroom houses a standalone bath and has black 3D Bisazza tiles on one side, with exposed white brick on the other. This juxtaposition creates the ultimate ambient space in which to soak your cares away. There is a separate single bedroom, great for a small child or third guest. Step outside The Boathouse and you will be greeted by the site of the passing boats on the River Exe. Topsham is a charming little historic town, with beautiful architecture and several bars and eateries to enjoy. You will also be perfectly positioned for exploring all that Devon has to offer. Right on the banks of the River Exe, you will have fantastic access to the Devon coast, which is replete with rocky inlets and some of the best beaches in England. The East Devon AONB is also nearby, containing over 100 square miles of protected countryside. The nearby coastal towns of Sidmouth and Exmouth are directly to the south and east respectfully. Topsham itself sits within the district of Exeter, with the city being a short 15-minute drive away. The county town of Devon, Exeter is famous for its cathedral and is a tourist hotspot with lots to see and do.

Positioned with the best views in the garden is the hot tub, ready for use 24hrs a day, either for relaxing in the dappled sunlight through the tree canopy by day or star-gazing at night. You’re also able to book a masseuse to visit, for an incredibly relaxing afternoon! An eight-minute walk along a tree-lined path down through the park takes you into Okehampton, known as the "Gateway to Dartmoor". It has excellent farm shops, pubs, restaurants, a castle, the Museum of Dartmoor Life and a cinema. The very best local walks are on your doorstep, from country lanes to woodland, meadows and riverside rambles. Bring your own bikes to journey along the impressive Granite Way cycle path two minutes away, which is also perfect for jogging. Go horse riding on the moor or visit Roadford Lake, 20 minutes away, popular for water sports, fishing, paddle boarding and kayaking, as well as sailing. The train station, just three minutes away, gives you access to the whole of Devon, catch a bus to Bude and all north and south cost beaches. Garden lovers can make a bee line for RHS Rosemoor or the Eden Project, or just stay put and enjoy the ancient gardens that surround you in Nutshell.

    This might be a human-sized beehive, but there’s no colony of guests, just the two of you. Sip champagne as the steam from the outdoor bath drifts up the rock walls that make the Humble Bee such a hidden spot or fold back the various doorways and let the woodland flow in. Moving between the landings inside, you’ll find thick furs, a day-bed for lounging and on the top floor, a king-size bed that appears suspended in the ceiling. The light from the honeycomb feature wall and heater flickering off reclaimed crates, barrel strapping and rich, dark wood give the hive a sultry, honeyed glow. If you choose to venture out of Humble Bee in search of the sweet nectar of adventure, then the wilderness of Dartmoor is merely a bumble away. Take the short tramp to the Railway cafe or grab bikes from the nearby youth hostel, get a good route from Yvette and range a little further. You’re just a hop from town, so you might hear the nearby park and local school from time to time, but it also means you can drop into the shops of Okehampton then retire to Humble Bee’s kitchen to cook up a storm. There is even a hot tub shared with your neighbours in The Bird Box and Moonbeam Yurt at Honeyside Down. However, it’s in the cosy den of the hive where you’ll likely spend most of your time - soaking in the amazing private outdoor bath and napping and luxuriating in the wonderfully creative habitat of Humble Bee.     The Bull Inn in is an organic, ingredient-led pub, that offers guests a wonderfully comfy stay in the Devon countryside. This Devonshire gem is fully committed to keeping its environmental footprint to a minimum - which fits perfectly into the alternative and bohemian approach the market town is known for. There are eight rooms at the inn. This includes two king size rooms and six super-king rooms, each with an en-suite. Four of the super-king rooms can alternatively be made up as twins to ensure more versatility. Two of these have en-suite bathrooms with a tub, and the other two have en-suite shower rooms. These slightly larger rooms also have enough space for a cot if you're travelling with a baby. Each room is truly unique and is completed with an array of furniture from antique fairs and flea markets. There are also bespoke touches, such as the bedside lamps carved from Dartmoor wood, while original features such as open fireplaces and high ceilings have been preserved where possible. The building itself has undergone a huge refit and refurbishment, but most of the original fittings and furnishings have been reclaimed or upcycled to give a quirky feel. While the old has been preserved as much as it can be, this is mixed with modern living - such as solar panels on the roof, a heat recovery system throughout, as well as stylish bathrooms and plush carpets underfoot. The bar is full of fabulous organic wine as well as organic draught beers from Stroud Organic Brewery and spirits. There is a relaxed and informal feel with an open kitchen and a mixture of locals and those staying mingling together in what has been lovingly described as a “decent boozer”. The historic town of Totnes where The Bull Inn is situated is now synonymous with eco-living and a different way of life. The high street is home to a wide range of independent and unique shops selling an array of ethical products, wholefoods, and fair trade goods.
