Inside, you’ll find plush red armchairs, ornate screens and hints of brass picked out by vintage lighting, while outside under the covered porch, nature is left to work her own magic. The dining table and chairs are where you’ll sit in the morning with a coffee, or finish the day with a glass of something while you debate who gets the swing or the bath first. Both are beautiful on a starry night, but equally atmospheric when the rain is drumming on the roof above.

While the cabin has all the modern flourishes – fridge, TV, wifi – owners Mary and Justin, who left London in search of a different way of life, have created a space perfect for unhooking from the modern world and truly relaxing. You can hike straight from the door on woodland trails, hit the coast in half an hour, nip over to Dartmoor, or stroll through the woods to the local pub for dinner. If you prefer to cook, then pick up ingredients from Okehampton’s organic grocer, to add to the local milk and the eggs from the hens you’ll see wandering past the cabin. You’ll possibly spot Theo, a neighbour’s horse who lives in the field next door, while all around you the health of lightly tended land means deer, rabbits, owls and woodpeckers are all common sights. All you have to do is decide if you’ll be spotting from the deck recliner, the lounge chairs, the swing or the bath.
