If you went out in 1986 with some Wham! on your Walkman, looking for the finest motorhome money could buy, this is what you would have come home driving. Owner John, who spent his 20s tinkering with VWs was blown away when he found this airstream and lovingly restored it, keeping the original character while adding a few modern touches and positioning it perfectly to make the most of this beautiful part of Devon. Hobs and a microwave have been added to the kitchen and DVD player to the retro feel of the dining area, sofas and leather chair in the cab. Outside there’s a private hot shower and laundry room, a fire pit, a picnic bench and a little crow’s nest deck, where you can sit with morning coffee and look out over the hills or lie back and do some spectacular stargazing. The Led Zeppelin has settled in a secluded field adjacent to John and Sallie-Ann’s home. There are livestock around, so keep an eye on the dogs if you have them, but you won’t see anybody else unless you’re out for the day. Even some of the many local hikes are fairly deserted, although the popular Tarka Trail is also nearby and makes for some great casual cycling. You could drop into Bude and other beaches along the coast for surfing and sunbathing, walk to some great pubs or explore the area’s diverse history and culture, from the underground passages of Exeter to the alpacas of Lydford Gorge. When you get back to The Led Zeppelin, crack open a bottle of something and settle in to watch and listen for bats and owls hunting in the dusk.

This newly-renovated holiday cabin is surrounded by nature and is just a short drive to some of Devon’s most spectacular and wild beaches, making it the perfect spot to disconnect from everyday life and slow down the pace a little. The cabin blends in perfectly with its surroundings with its beautiful wood cladding, surrounded by the trees, rivers and brooks of South Hams. Inside, you’ll find designer decor, a cosy wood-burner and a luxurious free-standing bath in the master bedroom offering the perfect way to unwind in style. To reach the Den in the Woods you must first navigate through ancient woodland, over stone bridges and past gently flowing streams. Step inside and you’ll find yourself in a beautifully designed, open-plan living area. A deep, comfy sofa sits in front of the wood-burner for cosy evenings in with a movie and there’s a dining area just next to the kitchen. There’s also easy access to the South West Coastal Path which is a great way to explore more of the area. Local market towns with their pubs, cafes, restaurants and independent shops include Dartmouth, Totnes and Kingsbridge, and all are within a 30-minute drive.

Tucked into the corner of the sheep field, the sun will arc across the sky from your perspective in the wood fired hot tub. But the perfect spots to lie back and relax don’t end there. You’ve got two other options to scrub up, with an indoor power shower for a luxurious wash after exploring the nearby coast or Dartmoor National Park, just a short drive away. There’s also the wonderful tin bath outdoors, on the covered deck, complete with a bath tray to keep the prosecco handy. When you’re not lounging around (and there’s still the Adirondack loungers, mind you), you might be cooking up a storm in the BBQ area outside when the sun’s shining, or of course in the small kitchenette if it’s a cooler evening. But after dinner, all bets are off, and it’s either sipping sundowners by the firepit, or if you’ve brought young ones – toasting marshmallows to perfection. Adventure’s always just a short drive from here, and Devon’s your oyster, with plenty to do inland and across the coast. You could be down to Salcombe in under an hour, or simply Torquay in 15 minutes or so. But the real magic’s on site, especially as a couple on your own, where you can make use of the oak four poster bed and forget everyone else.
