Kingfisher Cabin
- 0
- 2 nights min low season 3 nights high & Weekends
£150.00 per night
As you descend into the orchard and find Kingfisher Cabin waiting by the rippling Escley Brook, the trees seem to close around you and shut out the rest of the world. In actual fact, they only shut out the human world, leaving you to enjoy the bustling wildlife of the riverbank and woods all by yourself. As you nap in the hammock, paddle the little rowing boat, sit out on the veranda and even lie in bed, you can watch and listen for everything from otters to owls (and kingfishers of course). There’s even a large charm of goldfinches that make their home in the meadow in summer. The health of the 20 acres of land around you is a testament to the commitment of owners Tessa and Dave. You probably won’t meet them during your secluded stay, but you’ll see their commitment to the environment and their guests everywhere, from the biodiversity of the land to the bore hole-drawn water and a few welcoming touches you’ll discover in the cabin. They’ve also left plenty of information on the area, from their favourite walking routes in the Black Mountains to the simple twenty-minute stroll to the Bridge Inn for lunch or dinner by the riverside. If you’re planning on staying, then it’s a good idea to stock up on your way or at the local shop about a ten-minute drive away, as Kingfisher Cabin is pretty remote. Once you’ve done so though, that remoteness becomes a tranquil blessing, with minimal phone signal and none of the bother of modern life intruding on your dozing, dawdling few days down by the river.

You and your loved ones can enjoy a relaxing break in the idyllic Herefordshire countryside at the Cider Mill. This traditional cottage combines modern amenities with rustic touches, such as the exposed stone walls and cathedral ceiling to create a break that is as comfy as it is charming. This home comfortably sleeps up to six guests, ideal for three couples or a family, and offers large social spaces and a pretty planted enclosed garden where you can chat in the sunshine and dine alfresco when the weather’s warm. Inside, the main social hub of the home is the open plan living area, which is home to the modern kitchen, large dining table and the comfy lounge. This room offers you space to gather together and hang out whilst the designated chef prepares dinner and in summer you can swing open the French doors to the suntrap south facing terrace. The kitchen itself is sleek and stylish and is nicely equipped with an electric hob and oven as well as a fridge-freezer and a dishwasher. There's also ample surface space to make meal prep a breeze. Once dinner’s ready you can take it outside and eat on the patio in the fresh country air, or sit inside at the pretty Indian dining table and enjoy meals that stretch long into the night. After dinner, gather around the faux woodburner in the cosy lounge and enjoy a movie night or box-set marathon on the smart TV. Or, switch the TV off and grab a bottle of wine and enjoy each other’s company in style on the super-comfy sofas. Heading out through the French doors, the garden is pretty and well planted, with a south-facing paved terrace complete with garden furniture and a Weber style BBQ. This is an ideal spot to socialise in the summer or get to work grilling some local produce with a nice cold drink in your hand. If you're feeling particularly energetic, challenge each other to a game of badminton on the lawn. When bedtime beckons, the three bedrooms all offer super-king size beds with 400 thread count Egyptian linen, guaranteeing a luxurious night’s sleep. The three bedrooms also offer lovely views, either down the beautiful Wye Valley or out over the garden. All three bedrooms also have an ensuite shower room complete with a WC for added privacy. All of the beds are zip and link and can be changed by arrangement, meaning the Cider Mill can easily accommodate different groups types. Guests staying at the Cider Mill will be perfectly situated in the heart of Herefordshire, with easy access to the outstanding Wye Valley. The local area offers a perfect mix of hill and river walking, or you could take a stroll through the beautiful cider orchards, which are particularly stunning during blossom time. The more active of you can also enjoy some canoeing or fishing out on the picturesque River Wye, or explore the spectacular Brecon Beacons on foot or by bike. You're also in a great spot from which to enjoy other nearby walks amongst the orchards and hedgerows of rural Herefordshire, whilst enjoying far-reaching views from the Malverns to the Black Mountains. You may also want to cross the river and explore the superb Moccas Park National Nature Reserve. The markets towns of Hereford, Hay on Wye and Presteigne are all within a 20-minute drive and offer fantastic independent shopping, farmers' markets and good places to eat. Just up the road you'll find an excellent farm shop full of local produce. There are also plenty of award-winning local pubs in the area. If you wish to explore on foot you can walk from the house down part of the Wye Valley Walk to Brobury Bridge and then onto the Red Lion at Bredwardine. It's a lovely walk and takes about a good hour.
