£175.00 per night
This former convent has been converted into a beautiful 11 room boutique hotel. Surrounded by impressive countryside and pretty coastlines it offers the perfect balance of history and nature, with comfort and luxury. From its more formal beginnings as the Convent of Mercy, no detail has been committed in the owners' desire to create a home of modern hospitality with the promise of an unforgettable stay. The surrounding area provides many opportunities for country pursuits and where better to relax after a day shooting and hunting than The Cookie Jar? The hotel offers guests use of a gun room (with safe lockers allocated to specific rooms), kennels for canine visitors, a drying room to hang waxed jackets and wellies, a cigar shack and a comfy lounge to enjoy an after-shoot beverage. And the popular bistro serves seasonal classics to warm you up after a day in the country. On Summer nights, the expansive garden is a lovely, relaxed setting to drink and dine, while fire pits and heaters make it the ideal spot for star-gazing on chilly evenings. Or snuggle up on one of the inviting sofas in the exclusive lounge, where guests can enjoy light meals, afternoon teas, snacks and drinks. And when it comes to retiring at the end of the day, every detail has been considered to ensure you have a wonderful night's sleep. The Mother Superior of all the rooms is The Chapel suite. The modern, yet classic interior tastefully enhances original features including stain glass windows. Each of the rooms has been named after a local place of interest - from St Cuthbert's Cave to Holy Island - and has been furnished and decorated its own particular style. Signature drench showers, oversized fluffy towels, fine English linen on Hypnos beds and deliciously scented toiletries are all standard in every room. And no stay at The Cookie Jar would be complete without trying their own homemade cookies, offered complimentary in all rooms. The Cookie Jar is located in historic Alnwick, along the medieval cobbled streets of Baliffgate and is a short stroll to the Baliffgate Museum and imposing Alnwick Castle. Northumberland boasts beautiful countryside for walking, fabulous beaches for paddling and historic castles to explore. The coast is just a few miles away - so why not take a boat trip to spot Puffins and visit the grey seal colonies?
