The Tithe Barn Hotel is a historic townhouse that has been refurbished to the highest standard but still retains its original charm. As you ascend the staircase to your room you'll pass stunning stained glass windows and exposed stone walls. High ceilings and reclaimed materials provide style and a soothing welcoming interior. There are nine rooms to choose from, all of which have super-king size beds which can be adapted into twins as needed. The décor mixes modern elegance and luxury with the fine bedding, plush pillows and warm cosy duvets and blankets, and adds a touch of charm with the exposed beams and stone walls. Pretty art adorns the walls and the furniture is made from reclaimed wood. The rooms are large enough to lounge about in, you have a choice between classic king, deluxe king and superior king, and some of the deluxe rooms are on the ground floor for those with mobility issues. Curl up on the bed, get some snacks and pour yourself a big drink before settling in for a movie on the Smart TV which offers iPlayer, Netflix and much more. In the morning you'll be delighted by the fabulous ensuite bathroom with its white brick tiled walls and pretty detailed floor tiles. The showers are spacious and hot and the heated rails will keep all towels fluffy and warm so you can luxuriate under the hot water and enjoy the complimentary Eden toiletries. Tithe Barn is a staff-less hotel with hassle free smart Yale locks for easy check-ins and breakfast is included in your stay and served at the nearby VeeVa Cafe where you can get fresh coffee and a huge menu selection of delicious hot and cold food. When you're ready to explore Cockermouth you'll be right in the centre of town with lots of fabulous independent shops, restaurants and bars to choose from. Cockermouth is one of only 51 towns in Britain designated as a 'Gem' town, and you'll be a short drive away from some beautiful serene lakes and mountains. Derwentwater Pier is particularly lovely and you'll want to take some photos there. Allonby Beach is also a must visit and the hosts recommend you stop by The Lakes Distillery for a tasting. They also have a lovely bistro and the setting is a former Victorian farmstead’s cattle parlour. If you fancy a pint the town is famous for its Jenning's Brewery where you can also enjoy a tour and sample of their beers. Tilia, next door to the hotel has a lovely menu and when you're done exploring you can head back to Tithe Barn Hotel and head down to the Tithe Tap, a hidden speakeasy and gin bar offering decadent cocktails and delicious charcuterie boards.     Tucked away down a private lane, hidden by trees and sitting on the lakeside, Far Boathouse is an idyllic hideaway perfect for a romantic couple who love the water. Unlike many boathouses this one has the luxury of being on the larger side and is rather luxurious. Dispense with your coats in the hallway and make your way in to the cosy open plan living area. The first thing that will strike you is the view. A large, plump comfy sofa and armchair sit facing bi-folding glass doors providing an uninterrupted view of the beautiful lake with the Cumbrian hills framing it in the distance. You might want to just crack open a bottle, turn on the pretty electric fire and settle in to watch the sky change over the water. The interior has been thoughtfully decorated to provide a cosy nook with everything you could need to burrow in and leave the world behind. The kitchen is fully equipped for the creation of wonderful feasts and the hosts have kindly provided a wine cooler to keep things extra civilised. Enjoy a long, lazy supper at the unique marble dining table which seats four. Afterwards you can snuggle up and watch a movie, perhaps crack open the monopoly, chess or dominoes, or maybe just get back to that view. You'll sleep deeply and peacefully in the comfortable king size bed with luxurious Egyptian cotton bedding and in the morning you can watch the news from the comfort of your duvet on the Sony TV. The bathroom has a unique driftwood style and a double sized shower with plenty of hot water where you can make use of all the complimentary toiletries before wrapping yourself up in a big fluffy bathrobe and heading into the kitchen for coffee. Open the balcony door and step out on to the fabulous decked balcony, settle at the table and enjoy your breakfast as the sail boats glide by. The boathouse comes with private mooring so you can hire a kayak, canoe or boat from a nearby supplier and they will deliver and collect it for you. What a wonderful way to start the day, gliding along on the water with a flask of coffee and your camera to hand. Situated just three miles from Pooley Bridge where you'll find three very welcoming pubs and the fabulous Chestnut House which has a “gin wall’ of over 400 different gins, as well as lots of other spirits, liqueurs, beers and local produce. Perfect if you want to pick up a gift or two! If you're in the market for some fine dining make reservations at 1863, an award-winning restaurant which offers a seven-course tasting menu. For independent shops, plenty of great eateries, head over to nearby Penrith and submerge yourself in the foodie culture. There's also a great farmer's market where you can stock up on local goodies. Whether you choose to have a picnic by the lake or head back to your retreat and watch the stars from the comfort of your lakeside balcony, you'll never want to leave this wonderful boathouse.
