Bovey Castless also offers a choice of breakfast and afternoon tea.

Designed in 1926 by J F Abercromby, one of the finest British golf course designers of the last century, Bovey Castles’s 18 hole championship golf course in Devon is both challenging and beautiful. Opened in 1930, the course quickly gained national acclaim for its reputation as one of the most enjoyable places to play golf and nearly 90 years later, guests still love to play golf at Bovey. Designed to rival its sister courses at Gleneagles and Turnberry, the course has been described as an experience of golf never to be forgotten.     When Chris and Tracey set up home at Acorn Farm they transformed a former chicken shed into their house – they still live there now, but have added a shepherd’s hut and now a woodland camp to their motley crew of rustic handmade homes. Turner’s Wood has also been lovingly crafted by their own hands: a roof fashioned from an abandoned sail, paint brushes as (genius) draught excluders and a separate hut built from fallen trees in the woods. This being used as a kitchen and lounge, with a breakfast bar, mains water and good lighting – all for your own use.Here you’re tucked away in a peaceful patch of oak and beech woodland – no WiFi, but phone signal if you’re desperate – with logs for the wood-burner and hot water bottles to warm you, a chest full of linens and fairy lights twinkling in the gloaming. Both the shepherd's hut and the yurt can be heated, so you'll be cosy year-round. There are lots of spaces around to spread out into, with sports equipment and board games to keep families of all ages entertained. Chris and Tracey really have thought of everything, including treats, toys and blankets for dogs, and games for kids and adults. There's even a treehouse shower halfway up an ancient oak (complete with hot mains water!) and a compost loo with sawdust for sprinkling.Foraging for mushrooms for your campfire breakfast, getting stuck into your welcome hamper and toasting marshmallows together are all excellent reasons not to leave your little haven of quiet. Should you want to stray further afield you’re on the fringes of Dartmoor, with two great pubs and an Italian within striking distance of the farm. But why leave? Bring dogs to run free, horses for leisurely hacks (they’re welcome too) and befriend the sheep who also call your camp their home; only their soft bleating disturbs the peace. Chris is on hand and happy to drive you and your kit across the fields in his 4x4, while Spreyton village is a ten-minute walk for stocking up on supplies in the community store. He and Tracey live at the top of the hill overlooking Acorn Farm’s 45 acres, and also run an antiques shop on site selling fabulously retro collectibles like books and board games. This is a place of wild and private freedom and openness. And tiny pigs!

    This might be a human-sized beehive, but there’s no colony of guests, just the two of you. Sip champagne as the steam from the outdoor bath drifts up the rock walls that make the Humble Bee such a hidden spot or fold back the various doorways and let the woodland flow in. Moving between the landings inside, you’ll find thick furs, a day-bed for lounging and on the top floor, a king-size bed that appears suspended in the ceiling. The light from the honeycomb feature wall and heater flickering off reclaimed crates, barrel strapping and rich, dark wood give the hive a sultry, honeyed glow. If you choose to venture out of Humble Bee in search of the sweet nectar of adventure, then the wilderness of Dartmoor is merely a bumble away. Take the short tramp to the Railway cafe or grab bikes from the nearby youth hostel, get a good route from Yvette and range a little further. You’re just a hop from town, so you might hear the nearby park and local school from time to time, but it also means you can drop into the shops of Okehampton then retire to Humble Bee’s kitchen to cook up a storm.     The Bull Inn in is an organic, ingredient-led pub, that offers guests a wonderfully comfy stay in the Devon countryside. This Devonshire gem is fully committed to keeping its environmental footprint to a minimum - which fits perfectly into the alternative and bohemian approach the market town is known for. There are eight rooms at the inn. This includes two king size rooms and six super-king rooms, each with an en-suite. Four of the super-king rooms can alternatively be made up as twins to ensure more versatility. Two of these have en-suite bathrooms with a tub, and the other two have en-suite shower rooms. These slightly larger rooms also have enough space for a cot if you're travelling with a baby. Each room is truly unique and is completed with an array of furniture from antique fairs and flea markets. There are also bespoke touches, such as the bedside lamps carved from Dartmoor wood, while original features such as open fireplaces and high ceilings have been preserved where possible. The building itself has undergone a huge refit and refurbishment, but most of the original fittings and furnishings have been reclaimed or upcycled to give a quirky feel. While the old has been preserved as much as it can be, this is mixed with modern living - such as solar panels on the roof, a heat recovery system throughout, as well as stylish bathrooms and plush carpets underfoot. The bar is full of fabulous organic wine as well as organic draught beers from Stroud Organic Brewery and spirits.
