The Led Zeppelin
- 0
- 2 nights min stay
£115.00 per night
If you went out in 1986 with some Wham! on your Walkman, looking for the finest motorhome money could buy, this is what you would have come home driving. Owner John, who spent his 20s tinkering with VWs was blown away when he found this airstream and lovingly restored it, keeping the original character while adding a few modern touches and positioning it perfectly to make the most of this beautiful part of Devon. Hobs and a microwave have been added to the kitchen and DVD player to the retro feel of the dining area, sofas and leather chair in the cab. Outside there’s a private hot shower and laundry room, a fire pit, a picnic bench and a little crow’s nest deck, where you can sit with morning coffee and look out over the hills or lie back and do some spectacular stargazing. The Led Zeppelin has settled in a secluded field adjacent to John and Sallie-Ann’s home. There are livestock around, so keep an eye on the dogs if you have them, but you won’t see anybody else unless you’re out for the day. Even some of the many local hikes are fairly deserted, although the popular Tarka Trail is also nearby and makes for some great casual cycling. You could drop into Bude and other beaches along the coast for surfing and sunbathing, walk to some great pubs or explore the area’s diverse history and culture, from the underground passages of Exeter to the alpacas of Lydford Gorge. When you get back to The Led Zeppelin, crack open a bottle of something and settle in to watch and listen for bats and owls hunting in the dusk.

Fairfield Shepheards Hut

Chris and Tracey know a thing or two about how to set up a home. For years they lived in a house Chris built on his father’s land, but when that land was sold they came to Acorn Farm, where they bought and converted the chicken house that they still call home. So it’s no surprise that when it came to creating a shepherd’s hut camp, they were in their element. The old pagan tree circle at the centre of a field seemed the perfect spot, making the whole space feel like one giant room, not forgetting you also have use of the whole 45 acre farm. Chris set to work on constructing a spacious family hut, with two double bunks beds and a single that works as a sofa, plus a communal dining table on one side and the kitchen down the other. A second hut houses the shower and a compost loo and despite the complete seclusion of the site, both the bathroom and the kitchen sink have hot running water and there’s even a charging point for phones. After Chris had built all the functional stuff, Tracey got creative. A retro theme spans the 50s and 60s, from the cutlery to the taps, the radio and an old sewing machine, but she also filled trunks and boxes with rugs, hampers, board games and outdoor sports things, so you’ll have plenty to do either in the hut or in the big flat meadow area at the bottom of the field. They set up a barbecue spot under one of the larger trees, hung lanterns all around the circle and Acorn Farm was done. They are now ready to welcome you into their private paradise, greet you with wine and cheese and introduce you to the friendly farm animals (children and dogs even get their own little goodie pack too!) or alternatively, leave you to your own devices in the magic of a tranquil circle of trees on the edge of the beautiful peace of Dartmoor. Be prepared to totally forget life outside of Acorn Farm, as Chris and Tracey have made sure everything is thought of, so you can completely relax.

Cidermakers Cabin

£95.00 per night
Perched on a green and wooded hill in some marvellous rolling Devon countryside, Cidermaker's Cabin is an exquisitely designed and built shepherd's hut available as a self-catering space for couples and individual travellers looking to spend time in nature. Newly built and brimming with elegant features, local art and first-class amenities, Cidermaker's Cabin is the ultimate getaway for anybody who wants to immerse themselves in nature without compromising on luxury and comfort. The cabin itself is deceptively spacious inside, making good use of smart design, large windows and natural wood finishes to create a comfortable space which two people can easily coexist in. The cabin occupies a small footprint, but happily contains everything that a resourceful couple could need for a restorative time away. There is a full kitchen, with a two-burner hob, oven/microwave and even a butler's sink, as well as ample preparation space, perfect for cooking up everything from a slap-up breakfast before you hit the footpaths to a romantic evening meal to be enjoyed with a glass of cider on the deck outside. Off the main space, you'll find a built-in king sized bed, occupying the entire width of the cabin, and benefitting from the same high vaulted ceiling which characterises the space. The bathroom is contemporary, with a high-pressure rain shower heated by an external boiler. Throughout the interior, beaded lumber, neutral tones and subtle, whitewashed finishes come together to create an elegant and subtle space. When it rains, snuggle up inside with a good book and a cup of tea, and when the sun shines, head out in the surrounding region with a picnic, taking in the Exmoor light, warmth and unique flora. Typically guests at Cidermaker's Cabin spend their time hiking in nature, before returning home to sit out on the timber porch with a glass of locally made cider before cooking a meal together using seasonal ingredients. For anyone who loves nature and being outside, the area is dreamy in all four seasons, and there really is nothing like coming home to your own cosy space for a hot shower, a cold drink, and another evening with only the sounds of the wind in the trees as you drift off to sleep. While the cabin is secluded, the nearby village of Meshaw is a quaint and historic settlement, and is ideal for enjoying a pint of local cider in a charming pub, picking up local meat, vegetables, bread and cheeses, and taking in some history and culture. The beaches and coast are within easy reach, and there are dozens of footpaths, cycle trails and hikes nearby.
