Carpenter's Cabin
£180.00 per night
Carpenter’s Cabin was designed by Ben and Jo not only to give you a great experience of nature, but also to show how its possible to live more in harmony with it. Wood-burners, compost loos, local timber and solar power all minimise impact on the environment, while careful stewardship of their land has lead to flourishing wildlife that benefits everything except the plants in the kitchen garden, that need firm but friendly defending from slugs! Ben and Jo can talk you through any aspect of living in an ecologically sound way, and even build you a cabin of your own, but all they really want is for you to come and feel the peace of their slice of nature.

HARTA retreat is a unique glamping experience hidden away by Exmoor National Park and just a short drive from the breathtaking North Devonshire coastline. An escape from busy urban life, the retreat is the perfect place to relax, connect with nature and explore the peaceful surroundings. An ideal romantic break for couples, you’ll be staying in one of four luxurious tipis, overlooking the stunning views of the local landscape. The secluded site is surrounded by woodlands and meadows, with plenty of great walks through the country right on your doorstep. Each tipi has been expertly handcrafted by one of Europe’s leading tipi manufacturers. Developed for comfort and warmth, they feature two interlinked rooms and all the amenities needed for a memorable stay. Choose from the 'distinguished' collection - Dancing Deer and Sitting Bull - open all year round; or from the 'superior' collection - Crazy Bear and Moon Dance - available from March to October. All four tipis have distinctive interiors and offer different lovely views. With the Danish concept of Hygge in mind, the interiors have been beautifully designed with bespoke furniture, delightful decorations and ambient colour palettes to create a calm and serene experience. The first two tipis are Dancing Deer and Sitting Bull, which have a similar layout. The main room of each has a king-size bed, fitted with super soft linen and faces the porch so you can enjoy the views. A traditional, log burning stove keeps the room warm even on the coldest winter nights, whilst underfloor heating, powered by sustainable energy sources, will keep your feet toasty. There’s also a mini fridge and Nespresso machine to keep refreshed. A small hallway leads to the ensuite bathroom where you’ll find an elegant bathtub, toilet and washbasin, soft Pima cotton towels, as well as premium toiletries, and reed diffusers for a spa like experience. The outside fire pit is a great place to relax under the starry skies. Crazy Bear and Moon Dance both comprise of a beautiful design-led single room housed under a single skinned tipi frame (with exposed long poles). Both of these tipis have thickly-laid king size beds and beautiful natural textures. Rugs and crackling wood burners offer warmth and when the weather's warm you can roll back the canvas doors and let the breeze in. Or, why not lounge outside in your hammock with a good book listening to the sounds of nature all around you? Both Crazy Bear and Moon Dance have private walk-in bathrooms with hot drench showers, flushing toilets and wash basins, along with super-soft cotton towels. All four tipis sit in a quiet meadow alongside a tree-lined stream. It’s the perfect base to experience nature and discover the local area. Why not walk through the woods, see the local wildlife ponds and maybe even spot one of the native red deer? For keen tennis players there’s even a court located on site. Exmoor National Park is 20-minutes away, and offers an open expanse of moors, woods, farmlands and valleys, perfect for hiking and sightseeing. A historic castle and watermill are also located in the park, as well as Lynton & Lynmouth Cliff Railway and the Valley of Rocks, two popular tourist destinations. The North Devonshire coastline is also just a short drive away and boasts award winning sandy beaches and spectacular views. The thriving market town of Barnstaple is a 20-minute drive away and is full of independent shops, pubs and eateries, or you can visit one of the other charming local villages, all within driving distance.

Fairfield Shepheards Hut

Chris and Tracey know a thing or two about how to set up a home. For years they lived in a house Chris built on his father’s land, but when that land was sold they came to Acorn Farm, where they bought and converted the chicken house that they still call home. So it’s no surprise that when it came to creating a shepherd’s hut camp, they were in their element. The old pagan tree circle at the centre of a field seemed the perfect spot, making the whole space feel like one giant room, not forgetting you also have use of the whole 45 acre farm. Chris set to work on constructing a spacious family hut, with two double bunks beds and a single that works as a sofa, plus a communal dining table on one side and the kitchen down the other. A second hut houses the shower and a compost loo and despite the complete seclusion of the site, both the bathroom and the kitchen sink have hot running water and there’s even a charging point for phones. After Chris had built all the functional stuff, Tracey got creative. A retro theme spans the 50s and 60s, from the cutlery to the taps, the radio and an old sewing machine, but she also filled trunks and boxes with rugs, hampers, board games and outdoor sports things, so you’ll have plenty to do either in the hut or in the big flat meadow area at the bottom of the field. They set up a barbecue spot under one of the larger trees, hung lanterns all around the circle and Acorn Farm was done. They are now ready to welcome you into their private paradise, greet you with wine and cheese and introduce you to the friendly farm animals (children and dogs even get their own little goodie pack too!) or alternatively, leave you to your own devices in the magic of a tranquil circle of trees on the edge of the beautiful peace of Dartmoor. Be prepared to totally forget life outside of Acorn Farm, as Chris and Tracey have made sure everything is thought of, so you can completely relax.
