This cosy Cornish cottage is perfect for families and boasts an enclosed south-facing garden with wonderful sea views. Well appointed in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty – a haven for botanists, wildlife enthusiasts, beachcombers, climbers, ramblers and watermen – this delightful holiday cottage in Cornwall by the Sea is set in the privately owned, unspoilt 8-acre Vellandreath Valley in Sennen, next to the beach, bordered by a stream and sand dunes, and offers you spectacular panoramic sea views all year round. Inside every room has a sea view in this whitewashed, south-facing fisherman’s cottage, which nestles in the dunes at the rear of the beach just 200 metres away. There’s an attractive, open-plan living room overlooking pretty south-facing walled garden, bordered by a stream. This room has exposed beams and large granite inglenook with ‘Victorian’ wood-burning stove. The kitchen/dining area is fully equipped and is ideal for cosy nights in together sharing a meal. Open-plan stairs lead you to the first floor where you’ll find three pretty bedrooms; one double room with ornate antique iron bed and two further cosy bedrooms one with a single bed and the other a built-in bed. The bathroom has an over-bath shower and toilet. All rooms have rugs on pine floors. The coastline is full of beaches, ranging from safe bathing beaches to secluded coves to wild and rocky places. Some are easily accessible and some less so. Although there are several traditional seaside resorts for family visitors, the area also attracts walkers, naturalists, artists, and anyone seeking a quiet haven, with amenities close by. The sea is crystal clear, jade green, and a comfortable swimming temperature into late autumn. The local inn and the attractive little fishing harbour of Sennen Cove are only 10 minutes’ walk across the vast expanse of the sandy Blue Flag beach, which is perfect for swimming, water sports and famous for surfing. If you are lucky, you may see dolphins, spot the odd seal or even a basking shark. St Ives and Penzance are also accessible with a car.

The Engine House in Porthtowan is a completely unique part of Cornwall's heritage and lifestyle. Built at the height of the Cornish mining boom, it is a Grade II Listed beachside property with huge character, and is our much-loved home. The reverse level layout gives great beach views from the open-plan first and top floor, and the wrap-around first-floor level deck with pizza oven and outdoor furniture make for a perfect setting. In the heart of Poldark country, Porthtowan is located between Illogan and St. Agnes (known as St. Annes in the book and TV series) with spectacular countryside walks in both directions along the South West Coastal Path. Featured in Charlie Luxton's C4 Programme "Homes by the Sea" in September 2015 , The Engine House is a genuine part of Cornwall's heritage. Charlie says in the show "I could live here - I could definitely live here"! Other TV coverage includes Robson Green's Wild Swimming Adventure, when he swam in the Victorian tidal pool on the beach, describing it as "perfect". Kevin Mcleod briefly featured The Engine House in Grand Designs (Series 7, episode 18 - where he said "The Engine House at Porthtowan is one of the more successful conversions I have seen. This 400 year old reclaimed site has been transformed into a beautiful beach house which makes the perfect destination for an idyllic seaside holiday in this undiscovered, yet accessible, part of Cornwall. The property sits 50 metres from the water's edge overlooking the sandy, windswept Whitsand Bay. The first floor features fabulous ceiling to floor windows, so the sensational views are never more than a glance away. Step through the glass doors and fill your senses with the sounds and smells of the beach, hear the waves crashing onto the sandy shores and gaze out over the sea from the luxury of the hot tub. An outdoor dining set and barbecue makes al fresco dining a must, or simply wrap in blankets and enjoy cocoa under the clear Cornish night skies. Inside, on the first floor, an open plan kitchen and dining area, warmed by underfloor heating, is a great place to get together - to cook, eat and hang out. Fill your days paddling in the rock pools with the children, surfing, building sandcastles or strolling along this expansive, sandy beach, beach combing and dolphin spotting as you go. Catering can be arranged for you, or dine out, taking advantage of the region's great foodie options. The house is located near the lovely village of Kingsand and Cawsand (which has been called Cornwall's Amalfi), where you will find more beaches, calmer waters and some great pubs, including The Devonport which sells locally caught fish and seafood.
