Treetops Treehouse
- 0
- 2 nights min stay
£302.50 per night
The steps up to Treetops Treehouse lift you clear into the canopy and you’re suddenly alone with the peaceful breeze through the leaves, the occasional skittering squirrel and only the good kind of twitter. The temptation is to fire up the wood-burner, settle on the sofa and crack into the local welcome cider, but the rest of the treehouse is worth exploring. Upstairs you’ll find the king-size bed and in another room downstairs the huge copper bath, where you can lie back and soak up the quiet as the stress just drains away. The kitchen has everything you need to cook and there’s a barbecue outside on the deck, but if you fancy a treat then book in at the superb restaurant of The Fox & Hounds and head across the grounds for dinner. When you come back, sink into the bean bags in the secret cubby hole on the deck and watch the sun set on the fishing lake and the trees of Heywood Forest as the local train chugs past beneath you. Treetops Treehouse is set in the North Devon Biosphere Reserve, with the River Taw just below. If you want to leave the car behind, Eggesford train station is just a 5 minute walk away, and the Tarka Line runs to Barnstaple in one direction and Exeter in the other. As well as fishing on the lake and river, there’s the Tarka Trail that’ll take you on foot or by bike through charming villages and beautiful countryside via the odd homely pub. You can hit the coast for surfing, coasteering and a dip in the sea, or just spend the whole time lounging in the treehouse, sipping champagne and looking out over the pond.

It's set on a 17-acre private estate with lots of exploring to do along grassy trails, country lanes and pretty streams. Enjoy relaxing days at the nearby beaches or stride off along the South West Coast Path for breathtaking views before a dip in your private hot tub or the estate's heated indoor swimming pool. Old Barn was once Coulscott Farm's main barn and has been thoughtfully converted to provide contemporary holiday accommodation while retaining its original rustic charm. Step inside and you'll find yourselves in an impressive living area with vaulted wood ceilings that reach right to the top of the barn's three levels. Staircases and galleries lead up to the bedrooms on the floors above while comfy sofas invite you to relax and unwind in front of the log-burning fire. Move through to the fully-equipped kitchen, complete with an Aga, coffee machine and large dining table where you can enjoy delicious meals together. After dinner, get a board game going in front of the fire or head up to the cosy snug to select a book from the shelves and curl up on the sofa. You'll find five bedrooms across the barn's three levels, providing plenty of space and flexibility for groups. Next to a sunroom on the ground floor, is a bedroom with a super-king size bed and ensuite bathroom, perfect for those who prefer not to navigate a flight of stairs. Head up to the first floor and you'll find a king size room with a balcony overlooking the valley. There's also a twin room and a family bathroom, a great set-up for families with children. The main bedroom is also on this floor with an ensuite and doors that open onto the deck, perfect for enjoying a morning coffee with views of the surrounding countryside. Head up to the top floor where there's a twin room that makes a great hideaway for the kids. When the sun is shining, make the most of the outdoors and enjoy lazy afternoons out on the deck. Rustle up some lunch on the BBQ, go for a dip in the hot tub or just lie back and relax on one of the sun loungers, all while enjoying the stunning views of the estate's valley. In the summer months, you'll be able to stay out late into the evening, watching the sunset and perhaps doing a bit of stargazing from the comfort of the hot tub. During your stay you will be nestled in a secluded valley, surrounded by 17 acres of picturesque grounds with lots of great things to see and do. Kids will love the indoor games room that features table football and table tennis, and the specialised soft play area caters to children under five, providing a secure and enjoyable space. Kids will also love the large wooden pirate ship featuring decks, the two-storey Wendy House and the wooden tractor with a slide. There’s also a five-acre dog-walking field, and nature lovers will delight in meeting Coulscott's diverse resident animals, numbering over 50 and still growing. These include free-range chickens, charming call ducks, runner ducks, alpacas, pygmy goats, hand-reared sheep, Kune Kune piglets, guinea pigs, mini lop rabbits and orphan lambs during the spring. And finally, within the expansive grounds you also have a five-a-side football pitch, full-size badminton and tennis courts and various games such as croquet, boules and cricket. There’s also the newly added pitch and putt golf course! Old Barn has the rugged landscapes of Exmoor and the stunning beaches of North Devon right on its doorstep, so you'll be spoilt for choice when it comes to finding things to see and do. Start off by exploring the estate, with pretty trails to follow, play areas to entertain the kids and a heated indoor pool for a refreshing way to start the day. Venture out towards the coast and you'll find Combe Martin beach just a mile away, offering a sheltered stretch of water for kayaking and paddleboarding with the opportunity to spot dolphins and seals.
